Great Day

When I was on my way home last night, it just popped into my head, that it had been a great day.

The weather was beautiful, I rode my bicycle all day with great people.  There was one minor altercation with a canadian goose that got me a little worked up, but...what can you do?

At the end of the day Josh and I met up with friends for dinner and we shared some great conversation (plus...I enjoyed a delicious hamburger that was well deserved!)!

It was a preview of what summer should soon bring and I was very grateful to enjoy it!

Have A Good Day!

I am enjoying a delicious adult beverage this evening.  It's been a fairly long work week and another windy, rainy one for commuting...as I said yesterday, I am super stoked about this upcoming weekend of sunshine (say whaaaaat!)!

While I was on my ride home, this song came on through Pandora:

Watch "Greg Street - Good Day ft. Nappy Roots" on YouTube

I haven't heard it in years but it really made my ride.  Particularly because I was all dressed up in my amphib pants and reflective vest for cycling safety.  Just rollin along, having a good day!

Hopefully everyone else did as well!

Potential Debris...

There were a few obstacles on the ride home, but the Super Fly didn't mind...maybe my feet did...but it was in the 40's so I will suck it up :-)

I'm trying not to focus too much on the upcoming weather forecast (60's this weekend)...but it is putting a smile on my face!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Smiles & Wishes...Why I Support Make-A-Wish

There are times in life when you are offered an unexpected gift.  These gifts hold the opportunity for unlimited potential and hold no monetary value, but as the saying goes they are "priceless".

Over the past four years, I have had the opportunity to sit on the edge of a group of people and observe their comings and goings.  There have been stories shared about their travels, each one a layer of wrapping paper and ribbon surrounding the true gift inside.

They are the members of Team Alex and they work to spread awareness and support about an organization known as Make-A-Wish.

Without truly understanding the contents of the gift they offer, I previously raised money for the event and rode on the 50 mile ride.

I knew that I was doing a good thing by participating and I felt a level of satisfaction for it, but I hadn't honestly taken the time to understand who Team Alex is and what their history means.

Last weekend, I spent time with some of the veteran riders and the new "greener" riders.  There were introductions by the veteran riders and then the parents of Alex Graham spoke a few words about the ride and about their daughter.

It touched me on so many different levels that I still don't feel like I can capture what I felt after I drove away from their warm and loving home.

That night I sat down and read from the book they wrote about Alex, "When One Door Closes".  Halfway through their story I stopped and placed the book down on my night stand.

When I was a teen, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and was thrown into a series of doctors appointments, followed by surgery and complicated dietary restrictions while receiving treatments of radioactive iodine.

I have previously discussed this here and won't delve further into it but to say that it was a scary time for my family and filled with many unknowns.

The brunt of this fell upon the shoulders of my parents because as a teen, I knew what was happening but did not have the capacity to understand and see the hundred different potential outcomes that a parent can.

It is because of this history that my beliefs are solidified that what Make-A-Wish does is so important and significant.  That is why I want to be apart of this team and this event.  If, for one moment, granting a wish can relieve the fear, pain and unknown a family may be feeling, I want to be a part of that.

I will forever be grateful that I know the powerful words spoken by Alex Graham.   Her wish was geared towards making this world a kinder place and to share a smile with those that need it most.

She gave us all a gift that truly keeps on giving.

Thank you Alex.

Fun In The Wind

I promised I wouldn't complain about how windy it was yesterday.  So instead I'm going to say it was a beautiful "Character Building" day of riding at a not so competitive speed!

When I made it home, I thoroughly enjoyed some Chipotle for dinner and then promptly passed out.  It's a good thing my husband is so supportive of my training...otherwise he might start to feel neglected that I am comatose every night by nine!

Did I mention that I got married this past February?  I don't think I did! Josh and I scheduled a little wedding before the season began and enjoyed some good laughs and great food with friends and family!

Just the beginning of many great things to come in this year of 2013!

Smells like....

Well...first I have to apologize to the other attendees at my spin class tonight.  Apparently, when you leave your clean laundry basket full of clothes too close to the kitchen you sauté your delicious garlic and herb chicken in....the scent lingers.

I'm not sure why this wasn't obvious when I packed my bag this morning, but it is now!

Right now, I am having a hard time peeling myself away from watching the live feed on the news as they are tracking the Boston Marathon bomber(s).  Like many others that have been indirectly affected by this horrific event, I am proud of the bravery demonstrated by so many and continually appalled by the devastating actions of these two men.  Hopefully, the families directly involved will be able to get some sort of closure by the end of this evening.

Tomorrow will be another cold and windy spring day and I'm promising myself that I will not complain as I ride, because it might be cold, but it is still a brand new beautiful day.

The Bike Emerges!

There were a few brief moments of dry riding available over the past few weeks.  With the way the rain has been falling it seems like that was forever ago!

Looking forward to posting some new updates and revitalizing the blog soon!
